The Smithtown Democratic Committee

Who We Are & What We Do

The Smithtown Democratic Committee is the most local branch of the Democratic Party in Smithtown, part of the Suffolk County Democratic Committee. We are the volunteers whose grassroots activities work to advance Democratic candidates and elected officials, good government, and activism.

We are the most local elected officials you have as a registered Democratic voter - our Committee Members each represent an Election District, and our committee is governed by the Chair, Vice Chairs, Secretary, Treasurer, and other members. The Committee screens candidates, helps to qualify them for the ballot through petitioning, raises money to support our operations and our candidates, and helps to organize campaigns to get Democrats in our town, county, state, and nationally. The long moral arc of history will only bend toward justice if good people act. Our committee is dedicated to that action - to promoting good government, to electing representatives who share our values, to making sure our government gives each of us the opportunity to succeed. Join our mailing list to keep apprised of our events and meetings, and volunteer to make a difference that will be felt beyond the confines of our town.

Smithtown Democrats organize a rally attended by over 100 people at Town Hall in January 2023 to protest the hiring of Kevin Smith, of the so-called Long Island Loud Majority, a recognized anti-government group. Smith has targeted Smithtown residents and families, mostly surrounding school board issues, despite not having been a resident of Smithtown. The community came together, organized by Sarah Tully and other activists, and demanded that the Town rescind its job offer to Smith. Shortly after, it was reported that Smith withdrew from the job.
